International Peace Day 2022: History, Quotes, Wishes and Celebrations

International Peace Day is a day set aside to honor peace throughout the world and to mark the anniversary of the United Nations Charter signing. Let’s work together for a world in which every individual can live in peace and security is the theme of International Day of Peace, which brings people from all over the world together on September 21 each year. We’ve compiled a selection of websites to help you learn more about peace, history, and festivals from around the world in honor of this day. Cheers to World Peace Day.

History of International Peace Day

In 1981, the United Nations General Assembly declared the third Tuesday in September to be the International Day of Peace. On this day, the annual sessions of the General Assembly began. The day’s main objective was, and still is, to strengthen the values of global peace.

Twenty years after establishing this day of commemoration, the assembly altered the date to be observed on September 21 each year in 2001. In order to promote and sustain peace among all peoples, September 21 has been marked as both a day of reflection and a 24-hour period of global nonviolence for armed organizations engaged in active hostilities since 2002.

You can bring about peace. Throughout history, the majority of societies have gone through peaceful times. We are much less likely to lose our lives in conflict now than we were as children or as grandparents. Since the United Nations was established and the UN Charter was drafted, governments are forbidden from using force against others unless they are defending themselves or obtain approval from the UN Security Council.

A peaceful world is one where life is better, and today we look to those who have worked to uphold that peace to learn what each of us can do individually to further the cause of world peace.
